advanced locomotives and cars will tremendously enhance
passenger comfort.
TEDA
Financial Center
The Financial Center takes up a land area of 110,000
square meters, and the office area is 500,000 square
meters. Major public spaces are around the central
greenbelt and the high-rise buildings in the northern
part of TEDA. Seen from afar, the view is spectacularly
broad and uninterrupted. Several squares form two
oblique lines to create a modern ambience of colorful
changes. Mainly of glass and steel, buildings are
in various modern styles associated with any financial
centers.
TEDA
Library
Still in construction, TEDA Library is located to
the east of the Investors Service Center and adjoins
TEDA Institute of Nankai University. It takes up a
land area of 16,700 square meters and has a total
floorage of 66,700 square meters. The main part of
the library is 22,500 square meters. It has five floors
above ground and one floor underground. Designed by
California Civil Engineering Design Group, this library
based upon the open-shelf system is intended to be
comprehensive and multifunctional. It is of an oval-shaped
transparent glass structure. The dynamic modernity
intrinsic in its unique and unconventional shape implies
a "Crystal Palace of Knowledge." According to schedule,
the whole project will be finished and put into service
in 2003. The library contains a lot of reading rooms
and can comprise a huge number of books. Features
to support Internet, tele-reading and information
exchange and processing help achieve the harmonious
blend of a digital library to a traditional one. Internal
bookstores, souvenir shops or cafes are also within
the library premises with a humane emphasis on its
utility.
TEDA
Library has 2,700 seats for readers. It is designed
to comprise 1.5 million volumes and provide 15,000
Internet connections. It is estimated that when the
library is open to the reading public in 2003, it
will comprise 250,000 volumes and can accommodate
a readership of 5000 people per day. An advanced library
automation system will support its services and management.
Other features also include well-equipped auditoriums,
electronic reading rooms, film reading rooms, private
(group) research rooms, lecture rooms, computer rooms,
hi-fi rooms, a books exhibition hall, a children's
library, etc.
With its rich store of books and information as well
as its advanced management based on modern technologies,
TEDA Library will fulfill the functions of both an
educator and an information provider, and will be
serving as a valuable addition to the TEDA's glamour
of being a truly modern and appealing community.
TEDA
Citizens Square
Located
in the southern part of downtown TEDA, the Citizens
Square takes up a total land area of 130,000 square
meters. This is an all-weather indoor complex with
everything needed for recreation, shopping, meals
or fitness activities. One of the unique delightful
charms of TEDA, this multifunctional square is a muster
point for people of all ages and the "living room"
of TEDA.
TEDA
Recreational Zone
Taking up a total land area of 940,000 square meters,
TEDA Recreational Zone is divided into five theme
sub-zones: Sea Park, Adventure World, International
World, International Market Center and Future World.
It intelligently combines culture and history with
modern technologies. With unique architectural structures,
the whole complex offers excellent opportunities for
visitors to entertain themselves and will become an
appealing modern tourist attraction. The design of
the water surfaces started in 2001, and the first
them park will be open to the public in 2003.
TEDA
Football Field
In the design of TEDA Football Field, the goal is
to make it a cultural architectural structure providing
the most advanced facilities for players, spectators,
government officials and media.
Bold, unconventional and inspiring, the design mainly
features an arc-shaped pillar support behind the last
row of the spectators' seats, and that support further
extends to form a vault by cantilevers. Wireropes
tightly hold together the supports and the vault.
The bow-shaped stands and vault give the whole high-tech
complex a feeling of space and a signature visual
style. It can also be used for public cultural activities
such as concerts, public speeches and other field
sports events.
Its size is up to the requirements of FIFA (Federation
Internationale de Football Association) and therefore
is also up to the standards of Olympics and World
Cup. The grandstand area has 36,390 spectator seats.
There are 1,150 seats in boxes. The majority of spectator
seats are on the east and west of the field, and 70%
of the seats are within the canopy of the vault. The
view for every spectator is optimal.
TEDA
International Conference and Exhibition Center

International Conference and Exhibition Center is

Donghai Road, the Center takes up a total land area
of 90,000 square meters, including an exhibition area
of 80,000 square meters and a conference area of 10,000
square meters. It involves an investment of RMB 676

started at the end of February, 2002, and the main
structure will be completed in 2003.
TEDA

With a total area of 1.5 million square meters, the
Forests Park is located to the northwest of TEDA.
It is an ecological forests reserve featuring hills,
sloping fields, water catchments, wilds, swamps and
a variety of plant life. It represents an effort to
provide a natural retreat for those seeking solace
from the stress and strain of everyday life.
TEDA
Academic Universities Zone
Located in the northwest of TEDA and adjacent to TEDA
Manufacturing Zone and the Forests Park, the Academic
Universities Zone is a first-class new-type university
area that fosters research, development and innovations.
Its construction layout, somewhat different from that
of the traditional Chinese universities where departments
and institutes are independent of each other, emphasizes
the communication among different disciplines and
reflects use of the latest technologies in architectural
structures. Up to now, Tianjin Light Industrial Institute,
Kris Commercial University and some vocational schools
have expressed their interest in coming to this academic
zone.
