Student Entrepreneurship Garden (RSEG)
In August of 1996, Returned Student Entrepreneurship
Garden (RSEG) was established and began operations
in the International Business Startup Center (IBSC).
Its goal is to attract those students who had returned
from their studies abroad (returned students) to come
to Tianjin and start their own high tech businesses.
This represents another effort to use scientific and
technological achievements in all types of industrial
production and thus boost the development of high-tech
industries in Tianjin.
In the past five years, the government of Tianjin
and the Administration Committee of TEDA has done
a lot to support the development of RSEG. In that
process, we have also developed our own effective
and complete system of "incubating" and serving high-tech
enterprises, and our practical experiences in that
regard have also played an important role.
The mission of RSEG is to foster a group of high-tech
industries dominated by information technology and
biotechnology and build an integrated high-tech industrial
garden that is capable of both scientific research
and manufacturing. In the past five years, we have
attracted into RSEG many high-tech and promising enterprises
by returned students. Among them, Hexinguang Communications
Co., Yijin TEDA Biotechnology Co., and Kailaiying Co.
have been performing quite well. By the end of 2000,
52 enterprises had come and settled down, including
8 companies by returned students (see table below),
and their total revenue had reached RMB 500 million
yuan per year.
