Colored Middle Ring (Zhonghuan)

Zhonghuanxian (middle ring line) is a road encircling the city of Tianjin. The road is lined up with an endless array of modern buildings, parks and small gardens. Lush plants and trees provide a cool pleasant shady canopy. People like to say that Zhonghuanxian is like a colored ring making the city even more enchanting.

Beining Park (Park of Northern Peace)
Located to the east of Tianjin North Railway Station, Beining Park (park of northern peace) was originally built in 1906 for botanical purposes. It covers an area of 57.87 hectares, one third of which is water. Drawing upon Chinese traditional garden building techniques, the park features some neatly arranged gardens and pavilions, including Jiuqushengjing (nine-curve enchanting landscape), Daiyuelou (moon waiting pavilion), Huxinting (pavilion in lake center), Diecuishan (verdant mountain), Yuanyangting (Chinese duck pavilion), Yirantang (hall of easygoing mind), etc. A library, a theater and a swimming pool are also open to the public. In the east of the park are an animal-raising area and an aquarium. In the north of the park is Zhiyuan Tower (tower for reaching the distance), which has nine stories and is 74 meters high. Inside it are paintings for appreciation. But it also offers a good view of the outside.

Taohua Garden (Garden of Peach Blossoms)
It is located in Hongqiao District and immediately adjacent to the Third Ring Road. According to historical records, in early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), thousands of peach trees and willows were growing in where the garden is today. In springs, the sight of the peach blossoms in full bloom and the green shady canopy of willows would attract a lot of literary scholars to come here for poem recitals. In Qing Dynasty, once Emperor Qianlong and his entourage passed here when he was on his way for a tour to southern China. He was so fascinated by blossoming flowers and lush green willows that he named here "Taoliudi" (peach and willow dyke). In 1985, Taoliudi was renovated and renamed Taohua Garden (garden of peach blossoms).
Covering an area of 1.2 hectares, Taohua Garden is a park mainly admired for its scenic sights of peaches and willows. Over 800 peaches on the meandering dyke are interspersed with green willows. Fallen petals lie in profusion. What stretches before you is a long corridor of colors. The park also comprises an undulating and uninterrupted array of architectural structures in classic national styles, including decorated archways, pavilions, corridors, caves, rocks, ponds, etc, and over 5000 arbors and bushes.

Renmin Park (People's Park)
Located in Hexi District in downtown area, the park covers an area of 14.2 hectares, including 4 hectares of water. The four Chinese characters, meaning "People's Park", on the horizontal board are imitations of Mao Tse-tung's handwriting. The park comprises rockwork, streamlets, pavilions, pagodas, amusement areas, and animal appreciation sites. Fengting (pavilion of maples) is in the center of the park and is not an imitation.

Xigu Park
The park is located in the northwest part of the city. It was built in 1958 and covers an area of 32 hectares, including 7 hectares of water. It is dominated by natural landscapes of vigorous trees and plants. The park does not have a long history, but Xigu was already famous for its beautiful scenery in the 19th century.

Changhong Park (Park of Long Rainbows)
The park is located in Nankai District and covers an area of 34 hectares, including 13 hectares of water. Just inside the front gate is a rockwork. Beside the rockwork is a pond surrounded by drooping willows in neat rows. 98% of the park is covered by vegetation. In the west of the park are recreational facilities including a skating rink. In its northwest part is Qiniange (pavilion for the old), which is for gatherings and cultural activities. Adjacent to it is Fenghua Palace, a complex exclusively conceived for recreation, relaxation and shopping.
