Firecrackers

Tianjin is a big producer of firecrackers. Two main categories are "small firecrackers" and "double-bang firecrackers." Small firecrackers are mainly produced in Jingyan County, which is in Tianjin's jurisdiction. In Yanzhuang village of the county, over 500 out of the over 600 families are in the business of producing small firecrackers. In Wuqing County, which is also under Tianjin's jurisdiction, Yangcun village mainly produces "double-bang firecrackers": one bang on the ground and one up in the air. There must be an interval between the two bangs, and that feature is unmatched by firecrackers produced elsewhere. For that reason, the double-bang firecrackers are sold well both in China and other countries. In the last 30 years, firecrackers lighting has been all the rage. In Spring Festivals, bangs of firecrackers could be heard for a whole night. Besides for traditional festivals, firecrackers are also used for big events and celebrations, such as wedding, opening of a new business, completion of a new road or bridge, victory in a sports event, etc.
