Tianjin's Clapper Talk

Clapper talk, or Chinese Kuaibanr, is a kind of rhythmic talk or monologue to the accompaniment of specially made bamboo clappers and "sanxian", a traditional Chinese three-stringed plucked instrument. It was invented by ordinary people and originated in Tianjin in the 1950's. Tianjin's clapper talks are performed in Tianjin dialect, featuring strong rhythms and tunes characteristic of "Tianjin Current Ditty." Tianjin's clapper talk is bold, straightforward, brisk, humorous and lively. It is enjoyed all across the country.
